symptom
Error: 'Unable to connect to repository' when connecting with Group Policy Administration client.

cause

This issue can be caused by either of the following:

  • The C:\Program Files\NetIQ\Group Policy Administrator\Local GPOs directory is not being shared on the client machine.
  • The SQL 2000 Client Tools are not installed on the client machine.


fix

When connecting to the GPA Repository, verify the following two items:

  1. If a user has access in the GPA Repository database.
  2. If the C:\Program Files\NetIQ\Group Policy Administrator\Local GPOs directory is shared out.

The issue is resolved by:

  • Sharing the C:\Program Files\NetIQ\Group Policy Administrator\Local GPOs directory and giving Authenticated Users Full Control.
  • Installing the Microsoft SQL 2000 client tools on the client machine.
