fact
Directory and Resource Administrator 7.x

symptom
Error: '1314 the specified path licence.lic is unavailable'.

symptom
The Administrator is unable to continue with the installation of server components due to a error returned while configuring the license.

cause

These symptoms occur when Directory and Resource Administrator (DRA) is being installed on a server that had previously been installed with an older version, for which the setup failed unexpectedly for any reason without cancelling the operation.

When installing software, Windows Installer creates a temporary registry key with information regarding what software is being installed and the directory path it is being installed to.  When the installation completes, this key is typically removed automatically.

If a setup process terminates unexpectedly and the installation cannot be cancelled (as in a situation requiring the computer to be manually rebooted), the temporary registry key is not deleted and the information in it remains intact.  Because of this, Windows Installer is unable to locate the correct directory for the license file from a newer version of DRA with a different directory structure and thus generates the error message.

fix
To correct this situation, navigate to the HKey Local Machine/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Installer key in the registry and delete the InProgress key.  Restart the DRA installation procedure.
