Resolution

fact
Directory and Resource Administrator 6.50

symptom
E21507: LDAP reported the following error: 'Inappropriate Matchin'(12)

cause
The cause of this message is the distribution list name contain special characters such as '*' or '/'.

fix
This error is being generated when mailbox properties for a user account are being looked at by Directory and Resource Administrator (DRA).  There are several properties of a mailbox that refer to other objects in the Exchange directory.  For example, the given mailbox may be a member of Distribution List.  In such cases, we query for the information on those linked objects to get other properties (like display name). If the Distribution List is named with "special" characters this error can be generated.  For example, if a mailbox is a member of a Distribution List named "*rwc".  When LDAP queried this name, it resulted in the Inappropriate Matching message.  DRA does not handle the "*"when performing an LDAP query.  The only side effect other than the event log messages,  is when you go to the distribution list tab, you will see a name such as "/o=Netiq/ou=TS-W2K-DOMAIN2/cn=Recipients/..." instead of the correct display name.

fix
DRA 6.6  will correctly handle the special characters '*' and '/' in Distribution List names.
