Resolution

fact
Domain Migration Administrator 7.x

symptom
Cannot migrate group with parenthesis () in the name.

symptom
Error: 'Failed to move replaced account.'

cause
Domain Migration Administrator (DMA) treats parenthesis as special characters. When migrating Global Groups with () parenthesis (e.g. Group(Department)),  the DMA tool renames the samAccountName replacing () with zero (e.g. Group0Department0). If there is an existing (conflicting) group on the target, it then creates a new Global Group having appended 1 (e.g. Group 0finance0-1).

fix
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Change the target pre-Windows 2000 name (samAccountName) to match the renamed account with the zero (0) in the name. For example:

    Group0Department0

  2. Migrate the source group - group(finance) - with the Replace and Update option.
