cause

Windows NT4 cannot handle an uplevel trust. For more information see Microsoft KB article 256250 - ClonePrincipal and ADMT Require Uplevel Trust to Migrate Objects Between Windows 2000 Domains



fix

To resolve this issue:

  1. Apply SP6a (SP4 or greater) to the Windows NT4 PDC.
  2. Reboot the server.
  3. Break the existing trust with the target domain.
  4. Recreate the trust.
