Resolution

fact
Directory and Resource Administrator 6.x

symptom
Error: 'Could not get backup and restore priviledges %dirmachine%' when trying to create a home directory on a NetApp filer target machine.

symptom
Error: 'network path could not be found' or 'Access is denied' when attempting to create, delete or modify a user account's home directory that resides on an EMC Celerra storage device.

cause
The cause of this issue is due to the fact that the Home Directory trigger will fail if Directory and Resource Administrator (DRA) can not determine if DRA has backup and restore privilege on the target machine.

fix

In Directory and Resource Administrator 6.6 and prior, if DRA did not determine that DRA has backup and restore privilege on the target machine, the home directory policy fails the operation.  This was due to some Network storage devices not supporting backup and restore API calls.

In DRA 7.0 and later, if DRA fails to get backup and restore priviliges, then DRA will continue with the process. If the service account has enough permissions to do the Home Directory create operation, DRA will go ahead and create the home directory, otherwise DRA will return an 'Access denied' error.
