Resolution

goal
What does the BEA WebLogic Server SNMP agent do?

fact
AppManager 5.0.1

fact
WebLogic Server UNIX

fact
BEA WebLogic Server 5.1

fact
BEA WebLogic Server SNMP agent

fix

The WebLogic Server UNIX module uses the BEA WebLogic Server SNMP agent to gather performance and availability data from BEA WebLogic Server release 5.1.

The WebLogicSvrUNIX Discovery Knowledge Script will automatically start one copy of the BEA WebLogic Server SNMP agent for each installation of BEA WebLogic Server release 5.1 that it discovers on a machine.  A BEA WebLogic Server SNMP agent only uses CPU resources when data must be gathered; otherwise, it is idle.

If no installations of BEA WebLogic Server release 5.1 are discovered, no BEA WebLogic Server SNMP agents are started.
