symptom

Event Source: MCSAdminSvc
Event Category: AcctProvDomain
Event ID: 14081
Date: 7/19/2001
Time: 4:34:15 PM
User: N/A
Computer: DRAcomputer
Description:
Domain fqdn of domain(CT) (Trusted,AD) (Startup load using newly-created domain file) began at 2001-07-19 14:34:10 and ended at 2001-07-19 14:34:15, contents unsuccessfully loaded, hr=8007203a=(The server is not operational)

cause
Since Directory and Resource Administrator (DRA) uses netbios names, DRA requires WINS in order to resolve the computer name of the machine in the child domain.

fix

This issue can be resolved by one of the following:

  • Install and enable a WINS server in the environment.
  • Configure an LMHOSTS file on the DRA server machine.

The 'LMHost' file requires an entry for all domain controllers in the child domain as below:

10.10.10.1x machinename #pre #dom:domainname

For all machines in the managed environment (other than domain controllers already listed above), that are managed by DRA:

10.10.10.1x machinename #pre
