symptom
Error: '31217 DRA cannot authenticate to LDAP on the Exchange server' after trying to open the mailbox properties, of a mailbox, immediately after it is created.

cause
The cause of this issue is due to the Exchange 5.5 replication.  When cloning a user with an Exchange 5.5 mailbox, the mailbox will be created on the same Exchange server as the template account.  When opening the mailbox properties of a mailbox, the DRA server looks to the preferred Exchange server for the information.  If the mailbox information has not been replicated to the preferred Exchange server, then the above error may be received.

• Clone a user who has a mailbox on the preferred Exchange server.
