symptom
Pop Up Error: 'Unspecified error' when trying to translate security.

symptom

ERROR: E21658: 'The Domain Migration Administrator cannot look up the SID for domain DOMAINNAME' in Dispatch.log.

cause
This error can be caused by network or permissions issues.

fix

We recommend the following troubleshooting steps:

  1. Verify/Reset the trust relationships between the source and target domains.
  2. Grant the account you are logged into the Domain Migration Administrator console with, administrator rights in the domain specified in the error message.
  3. Verify that the computers that have been added to the project actually exist in the source domain.
  4. Verify that the PDC Emulator of the specified domain is available from the DMA console. You can use the following command to locate the PDC or PDC Emulator:

    NLTEST /DSGETDC:domainName /PDC

    Then enter:

    NET VIEW pdcName

If this is not successful, either add an LMHOSTS or WINS entry for the PDC/PDCE. Then either reboot the DMA machine or refresh the netBIOS name cache until it recognizes the new record.

If this is successful enter NET USE to the IPC$ of the PDC/PDCE. Then execute the migration task again.
