Resolution

fact
Directory and Resource Administrator 6.x

symptom
Error changing the property '$McsUserMustChangePassword' when resetting a password via the Web console.

symptom

When using the Web Console to reset password for a user, the following message was received:

User password not reset.

Error changing the property '$McsUserMustChangePassword'.

cause
This issue can be caused by an Account Cache Refresh taking place in the managed domain during the password reset operation.

fix

A password cannot be reset for a brief interval during an Accounts Cache refresh process. If the same Assistant Admin can reset a user's password in the same domain with no error message at other times, then the Account Cache refresh is the most likely cause.

A ticket has been opened to Development to generate a more descriptive error message so the Assistant Admin knows why the password reset cannot take place at that time.
