fix

Directory and Resource Administrator (DRA) version 6.50 and later can be configured to communicate with a Backup Domain Controller (BDC) to perform an Accounts Cache Refresh, only for trusted NT 4.0 domains.  If the NT 4.0 domain is a managed domain, DRA will only communicate with the Primary Domain Controller since its the only domain controller, which holds a writable copy of the SAM database.

In order to configure the DRA server to communicate with a BDC for a trusted NT 4.0 domain, which is NOT managed by DRA, please perform the following steps:

  1. Launch RegEdit on the primary DRA server.
  2. Select HKey_Local_Machine | Software | Mission Critical Software | OnePoint | Administration | Modules | Accounts | Domains.Flat.
  3. Select the data key with the NT 4.0 trusted domain name.
  4. Select the DcPreferred value in the right hand pane.
  5. Right-click and select Modify.
  6. In the Value data: field specify the name of the BDC.
  7. Click OK.

The above change will take effect after the next Domain Cache Refresh is run.
