Environment

NetIQ AppManager 6.x
NetIQ AppManager 7.0.x
Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server

Situation

Data is not being collected for Exchange_MsgsThroughConnector Knowledge Script.

Resolution

The Exchange_MsgsThroughConnector Knowledge Script only collects data on the Exchange connector that is not either an MTA nor SMTP.

A better Knowledge Script suited for this purpose would be the Exchange_MsgsSpecificDomain Knowledge Script which looks at specific, fully qualified domain names. for example, mail.domain.com.

Additional Information

Formerly known as NETIQKB11528

Exchange_MsgsThroughConnector

This Knowledge Script monitors the total number and size of messages sent and received by one or more specified connectors on an Exchange site or router group during a specified number of days or from a specific start date to a specific end date. For Exchange 2000, this Knowledge Script monitors connectors to EXTERNAL mail systems only.

To use this Knowledge Script, the Tracking logs must be enabled by the Exchange Administrator.

Exchange_MsgsSpecificDomain

Use this Knowledge Script to monitor the total number and size of messages transferred through an Internet Mail Connector (IMC) to and from a specific domain during a specified number of days or from a specific start date to a specific end date. In Exchange 2000 the IMC has been replaced by the SMTP service.

To use this Knowledge Script, the Tracking logs must be enabled by the Exchange Administrator.

Tracking logs are implemented using the network share <servername>.log in Exchange 2000 and tracking.log in earlier versions. The shared directory must exist on the target computer in order for the Knowledge Script to work properly. By default, the Exchange server installation program sets up the share. If you install Exchange server on a Microsoft cluster, make sure the network share exists on all cluster nodes.

If tracking logs are not enabled or have been deleted, this Knowledge Script reports 0 messages transferred.
