fact
Directory and Resource Administrator 7.x

symptom
Assistant Admins are prompted for credentials when connecting to the Directory and Resource Administrator server.

cause
This issue is a result of configuring the client workstations to use a proxy server for internet connectivity.  Use of a proxy server causes Internet Explorer requests to be passed to their destination annonymously.  In order to properly determine powers when processing these requests, the DRA server must be able to authenticate the user account.  It cannot do so for annonymous credentials and thus prompts for a username and password.

fix

There are three ways to correct this situation:

  • Configure the client workstations' IE settings to bypass the proxy server for local addresses.
    1. Launch IE.
    2. Select Internet Options from the Tools drop down menu.
    3. Select the Connections tab.
    4. Click the LAN Settings button.
    5. Select the Bypass proxy server for local addresses option.
    6. Click OK twice and close IE.
  • Do not use proxy settings for requests to the IIS server running the DRA Web Component only.
    1. Launch IE.
    2. Select Internet Options from the Tools drop down menu.
    3. Select the Connections tab.
    4. Click the LAN Settings button.
    5. Click the Advanced button in the Proxy server section.
    6. Enter the full URL for the IIS server running the DRA Web Component in the Exceptions field.
    7. Click OK three times and close IE.
  • Configure the client workstations' IE settings to not use proxy settings at all.
    1. Launch IE.
    2. Select Internet Options from the Tools drop down menu.
    3. Select the Connections tab.
    4. Click the LAN Settings button.
    5. Clear the Use a proxy server for your LAN checkbox.
    6. Click OK twice and close IE.
