symptom
Error: DRA agent can only run on computers based on Intel architecture. Attempt to determine CPU architecture failed.

symptom

The following message is part of an event that appears in the Application event log on the Directory and Resource Administrator server immediately after initialization or after the Administration server reregisters with the agents:

DRA agent can only run on computers based on Intel architecture. Attempt to determine CPU architecture failed.

cause

This issue can be caused by one of the following:

  • The domain controller referenced was removed from the network.
  • The NetIQ DRA Agent service was not gracefully uninstalled from the DC and the DRA server still contains a reference to the agent.
  • An Administration server was not gracefully removed from the domain.
  • The referenced domain controller was too busy when the Administration server attempted to register with the agent on the DC.
  • WINS resolution issue.  (If you complete a net view from the DRA server to the DC, and it returns a "path not found" error, the most likely cause is resolution.)
  • DC is on the other side of the firewall and the necessary ports are not open.

fix

The issue can be resolved by following these steps:

  1. Correct the resolution issue in the network.
  2. If the DC in question should be removed, perform the following on the Administration server:
    1. Back up the registry starting at HKLM\Software\Mission Critical Software.
    2. Delete the unwanted DC registry values located under HKLM\Software\Mission Critical Software\Onepoint\Administration\Agents.
    3. Remove the DC objects from the Domain Controllers group.
