Microsoft Windows NT 4.0

Domain Migration Administrator 7.1

DMA will not allow you to add a group with a name longer than 255 characters through the Select Object Wizard in projects or in a 'global' Wizard.

DMA does not migrate NT 4.0 groups with names longer than 255 characters.

If DMA attempts to migrate an NT 4.0 group with a name longer than 255 characters, the following may occur:

  • DMA may make several attempts to truncate the name.
  • DMA may create all migrated objects without a prefix or suffix you have defined in the wizard.
  • DMA fails to get the source RID for this type of group.
  • DMA fails to enumerate the source group members which may cause group membership update to fail.

These symptoms will arise if you choose to migrate associated groups with users and these groups have names longer than 255 characters. This is a known issue for which a fix is being considered.  At this time, there is no information regarding when a fix might be available.

You should identify groups in your environment with names longer than 255 characters and rename them before migrating.  This article will be updated with the latest information regarding this issue.
