Error: 'CheckMB failed due to timeout. Message will most likely not migrate.'


Possible causes

  1. The MAPI32.dll version is 1.0 rather than 6.x. This is typically due to accepting a prompt from within Outlook after installing SP2 or later on the Exchange Migrator console. This prompt states that another program has updated Outlook and asks if you want to let Outlook repair itself.
  2. AD has not replicated the account.


To resolve this issue, refer to the following:

  1. Search for MAPI32.dll version 6.x on your system.  This version should already be installed on the system either in the Exchsrv\bin directory, or Winnt\system32.  Ensure that the 6.x version is in both the Exchsrv\bin and Winnt\System32 directory.  If it is not in one or the other of these directories, copy it from the other so it will reside in both directories.  If you do not find the 6.x version on your system, you can also copy it from the Exchange 2000 SP 2 or later install files.

    • The MAPI32.dll may be changed when outlook 2000 or Outlook XP is started. It will prompt you that there is something wrong with the install and ask if you want it to fix itself.  If you say yes, then it changes the MAPI32.dll version back to 1.0.
  2. Replicate the AD during the migration.
