There are two options. The decision should be based on what you want to do with the existing file servers.

  1. If you want to keep your existing server computers and move this hardware to the new domain, migrate these file servers using the Migrate Computers wizard in Domain Migration Administrator. In this wizard you can specify to translate security on the file resources on these computers during the computer migration.  Alternatively, you may select to translate security as a separate step using the Translate Security Settings wizard.
  2. If you want to move the data to new servers in the target domain while the existing servers remain in the source domain, migrate the actual data using Server Consolidator.
    1. First migrate the data using the Migrate Files, Folders, and Shares wizard.
    2. Since NTFS permissions on file servers are most often set using local groups on the server, migrate the local groups using the Migrate Machine Local Groups wizard.  Domain user accounts that have been migrated with DMA will be placed in the new local group during this step.
    3. Finally, translate security using the Server Consolidator Translate Local Security Settings wizard to update the ACL's on the new server.
