Environment

NetIQ AppManager 6.x
NetIQ AppManager 7.0.x
Microsoft Exchange Server 2000

Situation

Error: Discovery Fails on Exchange 2000 Server: Cause: ExchPtInfo::Query Registry> Can Not Find Server Name from Registry because Can Not Find Registry Key

Discovery_Exchange Fails on Exchange 2000 Server with Can Not Find Server Name from Registry because Can Not Find Registry Key Error

Resolution

The NT Account running the NetIQ services is not the Account used to complete Discovery; it is actually the NT Account running the NetIQ Exchange (qexch2k1a4) service that completes the discovery for Exchange Servers. In this particular case, the NT Account for the NetIQ Exchange (qexch2k1a4) service does not have appropriate rights.

Use the NT Resource Kit Service Change Tool (sc.exe), or the services.msc snap-in, to change the NT Account running the NetIQ Exchange (qexch2k1a4) service to the same Account running the NetIQ services. Then, run the Discovery_Exchange knowledge script again (it should successfully find the objects in the Active Directory that it needs to complete and should appear in the TreeView pane of the AppManager Operator Console).

Cause

The service account that the NetIQ Exchange services (qexch2k1a4) are running as does not have the necessary permissions.
