How do I save registry keys to a file?

Resolution

To save a registry hive or key to a file:

  1. Open the Registry Editor (regedt32).
  2. Navigate to the registry hive or key to save to a file.

For example, if HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE is selected, the file will contain this registry hive, including all sub-keys in the same hierarchical format.

  3. Go to Registry | Save Key.
  4. Select a location to save the file to.
  5. Type a name in the "File Name" field.
  6. Click Save.
