symptom
Reports do not display certain ADM Policy template settings and descriptions correctly in NetIQ Group Policy Administrator (GPA).

symptom

NetIQ Group Policy Administrator (GPA) Reports, generated on computers with Windows XP, are not displaying the correct information.

symptom
Certain Windows 2000 machines show a different description for some of the ADM policy settings.

cause
When the ADM templates used by GPA are out of sync with the ADM templates used by the operating system, GPA does not properly display policy template settings and descriptions in reports.

fix

GPA ships with default ADM policy settings and descriptions that match Windows 2000 Service Pack 2. However, every new service pack or OS release from Microsoft includes updates to the default ADM files (System.adm, Inetres.adm, Common.adm). GPA uses a Microsoft Access type reporting database (GPSettings.mdb ) to store the default policy settings and descriptions. To view the correct configurations and to report correctly on Windows XP settings or descriptions, you will need to update GPSettings.mdb with the current policy settings and descriptions.

To resolve this issue in NetIQ GPA 3.0 and prior, use the faadmPublisher.exe tool to update the required ADM template information into the GPSettings.mdb database.

To use the ADM Data Publisher, type the following from a command prompt:

faAdmPublisher [flag] [filename] [description]

Parameters:

The flag parameter is a switch that denotes the activity you want to perform on the database. Use one of the following values:

/A ? Add an ADM file to database
/U ? Update an existing ADM file?s information in the database
/D ? Delete ADM file information from the database
/L ? List the ADM files that are supported by the current database
/? ? Display Help information about the parameter options (default if no flags are specified with the faAdmPublisher command)

The filename parameter is the complete path to the ADM file. The Add, Update, and Delete tasks require this parameter.

The description parameter is your description of the ADM file. The Add and Update tasks require this parameter.

fix

To update NetIQ GPA 4.0 and later so it uses the same ADM templates as the operating system, perform the following:

  1. Start the GPA Console.
  2. In the left pane, click the NetIQ Group Policy Adminstratrator node.
  3. On the Action menu, Select Properties.
  4. On the ADM tab, click Add.
  5. Browse to the ADM template location.
  6. Select the desired ADM and click Open.
  7. Click OK.
