fix
The following error message is received when creating a user account:

'Home directory creation failed because the home directory is not in an acceptable format'

The above error message is returned if attempting to create a home directory by specifying a directory name on the remote server which is not shared. In order to create a home directory on a remote machine the home directory must be specified in the following format:

\\server_name\share_name\%username%

If the share specified above is valid, the following steps could prove useful in troubleshooting this issue:

  1. Verify that the admin shares, such as ADMIN$ and C$, exist on the remote computer.
  2. Using the security context of the DRA service account, map a drive from the DRA server to \\server_name\sharename.
  3. Verify that the DRA service account or override account for the managed domain has NTFS and share permissions necessary to create a directory on the target machine.
