symptom
The DRA MMC is slow when opening the user properties page.

cause

There are two known causes for this issue:

  • The setting Check for newer version of stored pages under Temporary Internet Files is set to Every Visit to the Page.
  • The client machine is running Network Associates Mcafee Virus Program which is configured to scan JavaScript files.

fix

The issue can be resolved by performing one of the following:

  • Open Internet Explorer and select Tools from the menu and then Internet Options.  On the General tab under the Temporary Internet files section select Settings.   Select Check for newer versions of stored pages is set to automatically. With this setting, the first time you load a property page in the MMC; it may take some time while the files are initially cached. Thereafter, the files will be accessed from cache until either (1) a newer version is installed on the server, or (2) the cached files get deleted due to not being used, or to make room for some large website.  Also, clearing the cached temporary internet files may also improve performance of the MMC.

  • When running Network Associates Mcafee virus program or some other virus scanning software, it is recommended that you disable the scanning of JavaScripts.  This can significantly reduce the time to load user properties.  Additionally, if completely disabling the scanning of javaScripts is not an option, the following directories, where the web component of DRA resides, can be excluded for scanning:
    X:\Inetpub\wwwroot\DRAWeb\Admin\lib
    X:\Inetpub\wwwroot\DRAWeb\Admin\scripts
