Resolution

goal
Changing the Home directory information in a users profile causes DRA to copy files to new location.  Is this normal?

fact
Directory and Resource Administrator 6.x

fact
Directory and Resource Administrator 7.x

fix

Yes.  When the Home directory path for a user account is changed in DRA, a new directory is created with the user account name.  In addition to this, the following also occurs:

  • Files in the original home directory are copied into the new directory.
  • All ACL's for the original directory are applied to the new directory.
  • The original directory is deleted provided there is no user 'lock' on that directory.

note

To prevent DRA from copying data over from the old home directory to the new, please refer to the following Knowledge Base article:

  • NETIQKB7040 - Is it possible to prevent Directory and Resource Administrator from copying the contents of a user's old home directory to the new home directory when the user account is renamed?
