symptom

When installing the DRA MMC client,  the following error may be received :

Error 1904. Module C:\Program Files\NetIQ\DRA\McsMsgReader.dll failed to register. hresult -2147024770. Contact your support personnel.



cause

This error is most often the result of MAPI32.DLL not being available on the workstation where the MMC client is being installed.



fix

To correct this issue, please use the following steps:

  1. Verify the full version of MS Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher was installed prior to installation of the DRA client.
  2. If IE is already installed, verify that MAPI32.DLL resides in the WINNT\SYSTEM32 directory.
  3. Compare the size and date of the MAPI32.DLL file on the suspect workstation with that on another machine that is functioning.  If the versions are different, copy the MAPI32.DLL from the functioning machine and retry the installation.
