fix

There are several logs available for reviewing the actions performed by Domain Migration Administrator (DMA) and Server Consolidator (SC).  For any process that involves an agent, you can look in the dctlog.txt for information.  The dctlog.txt file  is located on the machine where the agent was run (by default this is the source machine in Server Consolidator).  To locate the file navigate to one of the following directories:

  • C:\Winnt\Temp
  • C:\Temp

For all other processes you can view log information in the Migration.log file, which is found on the DMA/SC console machine in the following directory:

  • C:\Program Files\NetIQ\DMA

Alternately, you can also view the logs by selecting the computer in the 'Agent Status' window,  select the Agent Detail button and then View Log.

You may also view the dispatch.log from the 'Agent Monitor' window. The dispatch.log contains errors and information pertaining to the agent that is sent out by the DMA console and installed on the target computer.

In order to log every file or folder where DMA made changes during security translation, you must enable file-level logging through the DMA console.  To enable file-level logging refer to the following steps:

  1. Select Domain Migration Administrator in the left pane of the DMA MMC.
  2. Right click DomainMigration Administrator and select View | DMA Settings
  3. Select the checkbox for 'Log file-level detail of changes in security translation'.  Note: this will cause the dctlog.txt file on the computer where you are translating security to be larger
