Resolution

fact
Directory and Resource Administrator 6.x

fact
Directory and Resource Administrator 7.0

fact
Directory and Resource Administrator 7.0 SP1

symptom
Error:  'An error occurred creating new share. Unable to create shared directory because it does not exist.'

cause
When creating or cloning a share, the Assistant Admin must input the full path to the directory that is to be shared.  If the directory does not exist,  the Assistant Admin will receive the above error.   Directory and Resource Administrator (DRA) does not actually create directories but sets an existing directory to be shared.

fix
To prevent this error message:

  • Make sure an existing directory exists when creating the share via Directory and Resource Administrator (DRA).
  • Verify the full path is correct in the DRA MMC or console when creating the share via DRA.
