Environment

NetIQ AppManager Suite 6.x
NetIQ AppManager Suite 7.0.x

Situation

Error: 'Authorization failure' message when attempting to run any job.
Event message 'Start job request not authorized to run on MC servername, please check the security settings for MC.'

Resolution

Perform the following on the agent that is returning the events:

WARNING: Using the Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. NetIQ cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Make sure that you backup your Registry prior to making any changes.

  1. Open the regedt32.exe.
  2. Expand the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | SOFTWARE | NetIQ | AppManager | 4.0 | NetIQmc | Security
  3. Open AllowMS and enter the names of the management servers that you want to communicate with the managed clients. Enter an asterisk (*) to allow all management servers to communicate with the managed clients. Names are separated by commas without spaces. For example: Shasta,Mars
  4. Exit the Registry editor.
  5. Restart the NetIQ services, NetIQ AppManager Client Resource Monitor and NetIQ Client Communication Manager.

Cause

The Management Server has two network interface cards installed, each with their own IP address. The Agent machine is picking up the wrong IP address when authenticating with the 'AllowMS' setting.
