Resolution

goal
How would DMA/SC behave if attempt to migrate files that are encrypted with Microsoft's built-in EFS?

fact
Domain Migration Administrator 7.1

fix

DMA/SC is only able to migrate encrypted files when DMA is running under the credentials of the account that encrypted the files, or those of the registered Recovery Agent on the source computer.

If you attempt to migrate encrypted files without the proper credentials, the encrypted files will not be migrated and DMA/SC will write an error message to the DCTLog.txt log noting the specific file, and stating "Access is denied". The error message will be similar to the following:

[7603]E20144: Failed to open file \\?\C:\TestFolder\New Text Document.txt, rc=5 Access is denied.
