Resolution

goal
Can Server Consolidator migrate Local Groups on an NT Member Server to Global Groups in the domain?

fact
Server Consolidator 7.1

fact
Domain Migration Administrator 7.1

fix

You should consider using the Map and Merge Groups operation in Domain Migration Administrator.

Keep in mind that Global Groups can only exist in a domain, not in the local SAM of a member server.

Server Consolidator can migrate a local SAM Local Group to a Local Group on another member server. Server Consolidator cannot migrate from a local SAM Local Group to a Global Group in a domain. There is no option to select a Global Group as a target.

In Domain Migration Administrator (DMA), the Migrate Groups operation allows you to migrate the Local Group to a Domain Local Group in the domain. Once the Local Group is in the domain, you cannot convert it to a Global Group. However, using the "Map and Merge Groups" operation in DMA, you can migrate the members of a local SAM Local Group to a Global Group in the target domain. If you use DMA to migrate the domain user accounts, then the migrated users that were in the source Local Group will be placed in the Global Group in the domain. DMA will also place migrated Global Groups in the target Global Group if the target domain is in native mode.
