Resolution

fact
Domain Migration Administrator 7.1

symptom
Migrated computer account names appear in Active Directory with a dollar sign ($) appended.

symptom
The computer migration completes but the computer account in Active Directory is displayed with a dollar sign '$' at the end of the name. The user can log onto the computer, but when logging off and then on again, there is an error message stating that the account of the computer is missing.

cause
This can be caused by selecting the option to 'Migrate data using modeling database as the source' when using the 'Migrate Computers' wizard.

fix

See NETIQKB9545 regarding problems that can occur when changing computer names and migrating them to the new domain at the same time.  To avoid this issue, ensure that the checkbox for 'Migrate data using modeling database as the source' is not selected 'Migrate Computers' wizard.

The workaround for the 'computer is missing' error is to log on locally, with an administrator account, to the affected machine, place it in 'workgroup', then join the computer manually to the domain.
