To shut off this noise:

  1. Open Control Panel | Sounds and Multimedia.
     
  2. Select the 'Sounds' tab.
  3. Scroll down to the 'Windows Explorer' group.
  4. Change the Start Navigation sound to none and the clicking noise will stop.
