symptom
Error Stating a Property is Required for the Selected Object Even Though the Property Does Not Exist

symptom
When performing an operation on a Windows NT domain object, the Administration server returns an error message stating that the specified property value does not meet company policy. The operation then fails.

Unable to perform this operation because of company policy. The property_name property does not conform to allowable values as defined by company policy.

fact
Directory and Resource Administrator 6.30 SP1

cause
The above error message is received when a custom policy created in Directory and Resource Administrator enforces property validation of a Windows 2000 object property while managing a Windows NT domain.

This issue is most likely to occur under the following conditions:

  • The Policy relationship option This policy must always pass is selected.
  • An attempt is made to modify an object governed by a policy when the object is a member of a Windows NT domain.
  • An attempt is made to specify a value for that property.

fix
The above described issue was addressed with the release of Hotfix Q12104 for Directory and Resource Administrator (DRA) 6.30 SP1 and is included in all subsequent releases.
