Environment

Exchange Knowledge Scripts
AppManager 6.x
AppManager 7.0.x
Exchange 2003

Situation

Running Knowledge Scripts that retrieve data from Exchange tracking logs may collect data points but record no actual data even though the Exchange tracking logs have been enabled.

Resolution

  1. Turn on all Exchange tracking logs.

  2. Define the System variables for your Temp directories by Setting the System variables for TEMP and TMP to point to a valid temp directory.

  3. Make sure the netiqmc and netiqccm services are using a user account that has permission on the share where the tracking logs are located.

Cause

Many Exchange Knowledge Scripts such as:

TopNSenders,
TopNReceivers,
All KS's beginning with Msgs*

Retrieve data from exchange tracking logs. These logs need to be enabled in order for AppManager to gather data and generate events. If the tracking logs are enabled you must use Exchange administrator to turn on all Exchange tracking logs.

If the tracking logs are enabled,  but still no data is collected, it is possibly due to there not being a properly defined Temp variable on that Server.

Additional Information

Formerly known as NETIQKB1454

The System variables for the TEMP and TMP values will not be properly applied to the operating system until the system is rebooted.
