In Step 3 - Specifiy Migration Options, of Defining the Project, Exhange Migrator allows you to specify the migration options that define how Exchange Migrator will migrate the objects in your project(s). Below are the options you will find and what they mean.

Keep Source email addresses
Adds the original email address to the mail object properties on the target Exchange server. If you plan to retain the source DNS domain name, or if the target Exchange server will handle messaging for both the source and target domain names, select this option.

Only keep email types defined on the target
Adds the original email address to the user account properties on the target Exchange server only for the email protocols selected in this window that already exist on the target Exchange server. This check box is only available when you select Keep source email addresses. If you only want to forward email sent to the source Exchange server using a specified protocol, such as SMTP, and that protocol is already defined on the target Exchange server, select this option.

Translate source addresses to target domain
Creates email addresses on the target Exchange server that utilize the user portion of the addresses 'sue.smith' from the source Exchange server and the routing portion '@gold.com' from the target domain.

The default format for all message protocols utilized on the source Exchange server are translated to the target Exchange server, unless you clicked 'Only keep email types defined on the target'.

If you selected that option, then email addresses on the source Exchange server that were created using message protocols that do not exist on the target Exchange server are not translated.

For example, if a mailbox on the source Exchange server contains the following email addresses:

sue.smith@silver.com
suesmith@silver.com
smiths@silver.com

Exchange Migrator translates the source Exchange server email addresses and creates the following addresses on the target Exchange server:

sue.smith@gold.com
suesmith@gold.com
smiths@gold.com

Use format strings to generate new email addresses
Specifies that you want to individually select message protocols for the target Exchange server. Selecting this option automatically translates the routing portion of email addresses to match the primary domain on the target Exchange server. Selecting this option also allows you to modify the user and routing portions of email addresses. Supported message protocols in Exchange Migrator include, X.400, MS-Mail, cc:Mail, and SMTP. Protocols are selected and modified in the next window.

Once you select the option Use format strings to generate new email addresses you will be presented with another screen which will allow you to define a new email address for your migrated recipient. This screen will allow you to add either a new Internet address or an X.400 address. Both of which you may create to your new style.

Use source Reply-To address
Specifies the address where email is sent when members click the Reply-To button in a message. To use the same address as in the source Exchange server, click this option.

Use translated Reply-To address
Specifies the address where email is sent when members click the Reply-To button in a message. This option is only available when you select Translate source addresses to target domain. Exchange Migrator translates Reply-To address used on the source Exchange server so that the user portion is the same and the routing portion is modified to match the target domain name. To use a translated address, click this option.

Use new address from address format
Specifies the address where email is sent when members click the Reply-To button in a message. This option is only available when you sel.
ect Use format strings to generate new email addresses. Exchange Migrator allows you to specify which message protocols are used on the target Exchange server and to customize email address formats for each protocol. To use a new address that you specify, click this option and click Next to select and customize message protocols.
