fix

Exchange Migrator does not currently have the functionality to merge accounts in a Microsoft Exchange 5.5 to 5.5 mailbox migration. However, the recommended workaround is to make use of a domain migration tool such as NetIQ Domain Migration Administrator in conjunction with Exchange Migrator to accomplish the desired result.

  1. Use the Migrate Users wizard to migrate the NT accounts with Domain Migration Administrator.

  2. Use the Translate Security for Exchange Mailboxes wizard.

    1. This will add the new domain's NT account as the Primary NT Account on the source mailbox.

  3. Migrate the mailbox with Exchange Migrator, selecting the option Associate each migrated mailbox with an existing Windows NT user account.

This will result in Exchange Migrator populating the Primary NT Account on the target mailbox with the same account that was listed as the Primary NT Account on the source mailbox. In this case, as a result of the Translate Security for Exchange Mailboxes wizard, it will be the new NT/AD account.

note
The tool is able to merge with existing accounts in a Microsoft Exchange 5.5 to 2000 mailbox migration. Please see the following article for which options to choose:
