Environment

Security Manager 5.X

Security Manager 6.X

Situation

What authentication mode should I choose when installing Microsoft SQL Server 2000 or SQL Server 2005?

Resolution

When prompted for an authentication mode during the installation of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 or SQL Server 2005 choose SQL Server and Windows (Mixed) authentication mode.

After installation of the OnePoint program you can change the authentication mode back to Windows only, if required.

Cause

Selecting Windows only, when prompted for the authentication mode during the Security Manager install, will cause errors and the install will fail. The Security Manager installation programs require Mixed mode authentication.

Make sure to always give the 'sa' account a strong password no matter what authentication mode you use. An 'sa' account with a blank password is a security risk.
