Directory and Resource Administrator is composed of the Administration server and the user interfaces. The Administration server is a service that must be installed on a Windows 2000 member server computer or domain controller. The following are the user interfaces:

  • MMC interface
  • Web Console
  • Reporting and Query Tool
  • Command line interface (CLI)
  • ADSI provider

The minimum software requirements for installing Directory and Resource Administrator are as follows.

Administration Server
The computer that runs the Administration server service must have the following software installed and configured:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 server SP2 or later
  • Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) 5.5 or later
  • Task Scheduler component of Internet Explorer 5.5 or later
  • NetBIOS protocol support

To use the Exchange Administrator functions, the preferred Exchange server must have Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 SP3 or later and LDAP must be enabled. For more information on requirements for enabling Exchange Support in Directory and Resource Administrator see article NETIQKB302.

The domain controllers of the domains managed by the Administration server must be running Windows NT 4.0 SP3 or later or Windows 2000.

To use the MMC interface to view or modify any mailbox properties, the client computer must have Microsoft Outlook 97 or later with the Microsoft Outlook Collaborative Data Objects file (cdo.dll).
