Directory and Resource Administrator is composed of the Administration server and the user interfaces. The Administration server is a service that must be installed on a Windows 2000 member server computer or domain controller. The following are the user interfaces:
- MMC interface
- Web Console
- Reporting and Query Tool
- Command line interface (CLI)
- ADSI provider
The minimum software requirements for installing Directory and Resource Administrator are as follows.
Administration Server
The computer that runs the Administration server service must have the following software installed and configured:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 server SP2 or later
- Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) 5.5 or later
- Task Scheduler component of Internet Explorer 5.5 or later
- NetBIOS protocol support
To use the Exchange Administrator functions, the preferred Exchange server must have Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 SP3 or later and LDAP must be enabled. For more information on requirements for enabling Exchange Support in Directory and Resource Administrator see article NETIQKB302.
The domain controllers of the domains managed by the Administration server must be running Windows NT 4.0 SP3 or later or Windows 2000.

To use the MMC interface to view or modify any mailbox properties, the client computer must have Microsoft Outlook 97 or later with the Microsoft Outlook Collaborative Data Objects file (cdo.dll). The cdo.dll is an optional file in Outlook 2000. To install the file, run the Outlook 2000 setup program, and select the Collaborative Data Objects option.

Reporting and Query Tool

The setup program allows you to install the runtime version of Microsoft Access 2000. The runtime version allows you to view and print reports in addition to allowing you to save reports in an HTML format for publication on the web. To customize reports, the computer must have the full version of Microsoft Access 2000 or later.
