Environment

NetIQ Directory & Resource Administrator 8.5.x

NetIQ Directory & Resource Administrator 8.6

Situation

What is the purpose of the NetIQ DRA Agent service on the domain controllers?

What is the DRA Agent?

Resolution

The NetIQ DRA Agent installs and then runs as a service on all domain controllers in a managed domain and serves two purposes:

  • Each agent service collects logon and logoff statistics from the domain controller it is running on and sends them to the Administration server managing that domain.

The NetIQ DRA Agent installation is disabled by default. For more information on how to enable the automatic installation of the NetIQ DRA Agent service on all the domain controllers, please refer to NetIQ Knowledge Base article number NETIQKB212.

By default the Agent redirects the DRA clients to the closest DRA server for the domain of the logged in user account if the domain is managed.

Additional Information

Starting with DRA 8.6 SP1 there is no longer a need for the DRA Agent on Domain Controllers. The Last Logon Statistics are collected using LDAP calls from the DRA to AD.The updated Last Logon job is configured from the Delegation & Configuration console of DRA.
