Situation

How is an ActiveView configured to enable self-administration for all domain users?

Resolution

To create an ActiveView that will allow domain users to change certain address and telephone number properties for their own accounts, please perform the following steps to setup a self-administration ActiveView for all domain users:

  1. Launch the Directory and Resource Administrator MMC interface.
  2. Expand ActiveView management and click on ActiveViews.
  3. In the right pane, click New button.
  4. Provide a name for name this ActiveView that is descriptive and easy to remember.
  5. Click Finish.
  6. In the Add Objects screen, select Custom Rule and click Next.
  7. Select Include and click Next.
  8. Scroll down in the object view and select Self (Assistant Admins given power over their own user accounts).
  9. Click Next.
  10. Provide a name for this ActiveView rule that is descriptive and easy to remember.
  11. Click Finish.
  12. Click Assign Assistant Admins.
  13. Click Add Group.
  14. Scroll to and select the Domain Users group and click Add. The Domain Users group should appear in the bottom view.
  15. Click OK and Next.
  16. Click Add Roles.
  17. Scroll to and select the Built-in Self role and click Add.
  18. The Built-in Self role should appear in the bottom view.
  19. Click OK and Next.
  20. Click Finish.
  21. Any user who is a member of the Domain Users group may now use the MMC or Web Console interfaces to update their own information described above.
