"Installation of cups-libs-x.x.x-x.x.x.x86_64 failed" with OES 2018 update

Situation

Applying an OES 2018 update with iPrint Advanced in a cluster environment should not result in an error. But, for reasons Micro Focus is still investigating, the following error is returned in some situations:

Installation of cups-libs-x.x.x-x.x.x.x86_64 failed:
Error: Subprocess failed. Error: RPM failed: error: unpacking of archive failed on file /etc/cups/client.
conf;5f47c378: cpio: open failed - No such file or directory
error: cups-libs-x.x.x-x.x.x.x86_64: install failed

error: cups-libs-x.x.x-x.x.x.x86_64: erase skipped

Note: The version of cups-libs is shown as x.x.x.... because the version will be different depending on which update is being applied.

Resolution

Move the iPrint Cluster Volume off the node which is being updated.
Paste the following commands into an SSH session:

sh /opt/novell/iprintmgmt/bin/cluster_cups_update.sh

Run the upgrade again.

Note: if the cluster_cups_update.sh script does not exist in the /opt/novell/iprint/bin directory, contact Micro Focus Support for assistance.

Cause

When iPrint Advanced is installed on the OES Cluster server, there are CUPS symbolic links pointing to the Cluster Volume. Because the Cluster Volume is not active on the node being updated, the error is presented. The iPrint development team is aware of this situation and therefore has had a fix in place that is applied with the update. However, for reasons not yet known, there are situations which still result in the error listed above. Micro Focus is investigating this situation. Until a follow-up fix is released, the RESOLUTION steps above will get the server past the error.
