Environment

Reflection Desktop (including Pro, or for IBM) 16.0 and higher

Situation

  • IBM 3270 printer session set to “Print to FILE” or print to Windows PDF file
  • Output is limited to 80 characters per line
  • Session configuration has Characters Per Line (CPL) set to “Auto” (32767)
  • Session configuration has “Print Override Host Format” enabled (checked)
  • Host is not sending a Set Horizontal Format (SHF) to set the Maximum Print Position (MPP) to a value greater than 80 characters

Resolution

There are two solution alternatives:

1. Set “Print Override Host Format” to unchecked, set Characters Per Line to “Auto” and select print to FILE.
or
2. Set “Print Override Host Format” to checked, set Characters Per Line to a value greater than 80 and select print to FILE.

Cause

If the “Print Override Host Format” value is checked and the Characters Per Line is set to “Auto” in the configuration of the printer session, then the CPL will be set to a maximum of 80 characters.
