SMG-scanner stops working

Situation

Message scanning has stopped. The smg-scanner log shows it loading but nothing else after that. Messages are getting processed but not scanned.

Resolution

If the smg-scanner log (this log can be found in the System Admin. UI | System Management | manage servers | <server name> | system logs | Download) doesn't show more than the above example after it starts up, then it is possible that the license has expired. This can be verified in two ways:

1) In the SMG System Admin. UI | system management | licensing. Check to see if the installed license has expired:


2) In the smg-smtp log look for the following string: SMTP interface license expired or invalid.

If either of the above show the license is expired, follow this TID to install a new license.
