Login hangs after applying the Microsoft June 2020 Windows 10 roll-up patch

Environment

Client for Open Enterprise Server 2 SP5

Situation

After a reboot, upon entering the user's logon credentials, the login process "hangs" with the cursor spinning. The only way to recover is to perform a hard shut down. A "Computer Only" logon allows access to the desktop, and the user can then login using the system tray icon.

Resolution

Apply the Microsoft patch that resolves the problem. The KB depends on the build of Windows 10:

2004 - KB4565503
1903 and 1909 - KB4565483
1809 - KB4558998
1803 - KB4565489

These patches were included in the monthly Windows 10 roll-up patch, beginning with the July 2020 monthly roll-up for Windows 10.

Cause

An bug related to lsass.exe was introduced in the June 2020 monthly roll-up for Windows 10.
