Environment

Rumba version 8.1
Microsoft Windows 10

Situation

Users are encountering "Object reference not set to an instance of an object” error message when launching Rumba.

Resolution

The issue has been fixed in Rumba version 9.5 or higher.

Please note that the earlier version will be removed by the upgrade.  User-created session or configuration files will be preserved.

Cause

We have found that on some systems that have had either MS Office 2010 or MS Office 2010 evaluation installed, and then subsequently removed, running Rumba desktop version 8.1 will fail with the exception "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." After some research, we were able to determine that Office 2010 will leave behind the following registry key:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook

even though the product is not installed. All of the values under this key will have been deleted.
