Environment

GroupWise 2012 Support Pack 2
GroupWise 2014
GroupWise 18

Situation

When I try to create a Windows msiexec MST file for GroupWise , using the gwtuner.exe program.

I get the error :

"The specified path does not contain a valid GroupWise Client installation. Enter a different way."

If you happen to be using a Spanish version of Windows, the error will be :

"La vía especificada no contiene una instalación de Cliente de GroupWise válida.  Introduzca una vía distinta."

The error occurs when you type most any path in the list box "Please specify the location of the Client directory" and then click NEXT.

Resolution

The error occurs because the gwtuner.exe program wants the path to the <GroupWise software image install directory>\client\ directory, this is noted in step # 3 of the instructions at :

The GroupWise software image install directory is the location of where you decompress your GroupWise full Windows installation zip file, example :  "gw18.1.1_full_win_multi.zip".

When you decompress the above .zip file it decompresses the GroupWise installation files into a directory called "groupwise" under the directory that contains the GroupWise zip file.  Under the "groupwise" directory is a directory called "client".  That is the directory path that the gwtuner.exe program wants when it first starts.

Cause

It was mistakenly believed that the client path that the gwtuner.exe program wanted was where the GroupWise windows client would eventually install to.
