GroupWise post offices are consuming more and more disk space

Environment

GroupWise 18.1
GroupWise 18.2

Situation

Over time the post offices are consuming more and more disk space, despite having an expire/reduce policy in place.  GroupWise is orphaning LIN records in some cases where a system group was used to send a message.

Resolution

The fix is currently in FTF builds.  If the system is running GroupWise 18.1.x, please open an SR and request FTF build 135463 or newer.  If the system is running GroupWise 18.2.x, please open an SR and request FTF build 135462 or newer.

The fix will be included in the 18.2.1 release however we do not have an ETA for that release.

Cause

The problem was introduced with GroupWise 2014 SP2 when the invite feature was added.

Additional Information

If you suspect that your post office has filled up with orphaned LIN records, we suggest the following procedure:
1) (Recommended)Deploy the fix to prevent the orphaning from continuing to occur.
2) (Recommended) Run a contents check on the entire post office (all user and message DBs)
3) (Recommended) Make a full backup of the entire post office.
4) (Required) Run an expire/reduce on all users on the post office. Pick a date range (e.g. 180 days) for the removal of all item types (Mail, Appointments, etc.) and all "shared" box types (Received, sent but not personal or draft).
After it has run, note the disk space used by the entire post office.
5) (Required) Run an expire/reduce on all users on the post office. Pick a longer date range than step 3) (e.g. 210 days) for the removal of all item types (Mail, Appointments, etc.) and all "shared" box types (Received, sent but not personal or draft).  Include the "forceclean" misc option.
After it has run, note the disk space used by the entire post office.
6) (Recommended) Run another contents check on the entire post office (all user and message DBs)
7) (Recommended) Compare the disk space usage from 4) and 5) and note the % of savings and whether or not the savings was worth it.
8) (Optional) Open an SR and provide the steps on what was done and what the results were.
