“Error: 1309: Error reading from file” when attempting to uninstall Rumba 10 hotfix on Windows 10

Environment

Rumba version 10
Microsoft Windows 10 version 1809 (OS Build 17763.316) Update KB4487044
Microsoft Windows 10 version 1903 (OS Build 18362.53 or OS Build 18362.86)

Situation

Some Windows 10 updates have MSI installer bug, which causes Rumba 10 hotfix uninstall to fail. The following error is encountered when attempting to uninstall a Rumba 10 hot fix:


Micro Focus Rumba+ Desktop dialog: "Error 1309. Error reading from file: C:\Windows\Installer\$PatchCache$\Managed\47FD53E73F739D9429DE4FB9974965A4\10.0.0\microfocus.rumba.terminalid. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it."

The problem is encountered on the following two Windows 10 versions:
1) Windows 10 Version 1809 (OS Build 17763.316).

The problem is caused by Microsoft KB4487044.

2) Windows 10 Version 1903 (OS Build 18362.53 or OS Build 18362.86).

     

Resolution

Apply the following Microsoft update on Windows 10 Version 1809 (OS Build 17763.316) to correct the problem: KB4489899.

It’s recommended to install the above (KB4489899) Windows 10 update to Windows 10 version 1809 (OS Build 17763.316) before installing any Rumba 10 Hotfixes.

The problem is resolved by Microsoft in Windows 10 version 1903, OS Build 18362.295 with updates KB4512508, KB4508433, and KB4506991.
