NPNS push notifications not working with Messenger or Calendar host server.

Existing NPNS push configuration stops working and Mac workstations or iOS based devices do not get updates anymore.
In Messenger, MMMA logs show errors when you send a new message to idle iOS device running Messenger client like:

08:45:58 B40 NPN Failed to send message to NPNS server [0x8922] - SSL connect failure

In calsrv.log, errors could be similar to:

2018-10-18 10:48:06 [push]@localhost NpnsPushService [ERROR] Error processing NPNS message queue


There were several issues with NPNS server which were resolved.
However, if you still see those problems, you might go into our NPNS portal ( and revoke your existing certificates. Afterwards re-generate them newly and download on a local workstation. See also documentation.
Copy/replace then certificate files from extracted zip file on your server and restart the services.
