Environment

GroupWise 2014 R2
GroupWise 18
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 4 (SLES 11 SP4)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 3 (SLES 12 SP3)

Situation

The system monitor shows CPU is at 100%.  Doing a TOP command shows wwwrun java is at 96-100%.  User is unable to log into GroupWise WebAccess

Resolution

Change directories to:
/var/opt/novell/groupwise/webaccess/logs

Search the exceptions.txt file for this line:
userID - 8/17/2018
java.lang.Throwable: WARNING! Folder and it's parent have the same ID: folder = <folder name>, parent = <folder name>

The line above WARNING! will have the userID of the user in question.
Log into the GroupWise client for that user and rename the folder so they don't have the same name or the one that has a strange extended ASCII character.
Restart tomcat

Cause

GroupWise WebAccess doesn't work properly with parent folders and children folders having the same name. When the user that has this folder issue logs into WebAccess, java then hogs the CPU. If the user logs off and tomcat is restarted then the CPU goes back to normal. Once the folder naming is issue is resolved user can log into WebAccess and everything will run normally.  The same result is also observed if there is a folder in the GroupWise cabinet that has a strange extended ASCII character.  The same result is also observed if there is an personal address book that has a strange extended ASCII character.  Once these characters are changed to normal characters, then the problem is resolved.
